Citations: being the source, not just the subject
A mention is your name in an answer; a citation is your domain used as the answer’s source. This tab measures the second, stronger signal.
Citation Share tracks how often your domain is cited across all answers in the period, charted against the previous period. Citation Rank places you on a leaderboard of every domain the engines cited for your prompt set — a competitive map of the sources engines actually trust, where third-party surfaces like G2 or Zapier often appear alongside competitor domains. Citation Categories below breaks sources into types, separating owned citations from earned ones.

Terms on this screen
- Citation
- An AI answer sourcing your domain (linked or referenced), not merely naming your brand.
- Citation Share
- Your domain’s share of all citations observed across tracked answers in the period.
- Citation Rank
- Your position among all cited domains for your tracked prompt set.
- Owned vs earned
- Owned: your domain is cited. Earned: a third party that mentions you (G2, Reddit, press) is cited. Both move visibility; they are worked differently.
